Well...she did it!
We've spent the past two weekends celebrating, with family and friends, a major milestone in the life of my daughter Rachel. On Saturday, May 31, she graduated, with academic honors, from Hamilton Southeastern High School at the Pepsi Coliseum in Indianapolis. Yesterday, we threw a party in her honor. It was awesome. We had a packed house with people from all over the tri-state area. Everyone had so many incredible things to say - way more than the token "congratulations," but comments and offerings about her impact on her circle of influence, and the example she has set for so many on-lookers.
What makes this so special is this...Rachel is not the smartest person in the world. She is not the most athletic nor is she the most talented. What Rachel has is even better than any of these. She has grit and determination. She is one of the most self-disciplined, conscientious people I know. When she sets her mind to doing something, she doesn't just do it, she always does it well - exceeds expectations. Nothing else is acceptable. She took advantage of every opportunity to succeed in school...even when that meant staying home on Friday or Saturday night to finish her work on an extra-credit project, or waiting after school to discuss a project with a teacher, or doing all the work on a "group-assigned" assignment, etc.
These are traits that will take her very far in the world that awaits her. Commencement means new beginnings. The future promises to be very bright for Rachel. I couldn't be more proud.
Rachel is gritty and determined, yes. She is also kind, loving, and a blessing to all that know her. She has done and will do great things for God. I will always be a big fan!!!
