My how time flies. I simply cannot believe it is August already. Kelly starts school on the 11th and Natalie and Rachel start college two weeks later. I don't ever remember starting school before labor Day back in "the day." We actually had a summer as kids.
Happy birthday to my mom, who turned 39 again on August 1. Maybe that's why I am often mistaken for being younger than I really am. Here's to many more 39 year old birthday's mom!
I'm almost done reading Dave Ramsey's book "The Total Money Makeover." Where was this guy 20 years ago? I could have really used the advice back then. Traci and I are going to go through it with the girls. They need to learn these personal finance lessons before they follow down the mistake-laden path we chose. We are also going through his other book "The Financial Peace Planner." I highly recommend both books if you are looking for practical, simple, straight-forward advice on how to manage your money.
Before reading either, I suggest reading Andy Stanley's book, "Fields of Gold" first. What a great reminder of God's money management plan. No financial plan should be forged without knowing and trusting in these principles. Stanley's conclusions are dead one...at least they were for me (certainly in light of my past 9 months).
TIDBITS:
I travel to New York the 2nd week of August for formal Steinway piano training. I can't wait. I'll get to tour the factory where they've been making Steinway pianos since 1853, as well as Steinway Hall in mid-town Manhattan. I'll unpack my visit when I return.
I am leading worship at the First Church of Christ in Burlington Kentucky on August 9-10. My long-time friend and colleague, John Barfield, is on vacation and asked me to come and lead in his absence. We have several good friends that attend there. It'll be fun re-connecting with them.
I'm also leading worship on August 24 at Lifepointe Church for my friend Frank Bradford, who will be off promoting his new CD and a little R&R.
Until next time,
